Marathon!!! on Catalina Island

We just ran our first Marathon this past weekend. 26.2 miles!!! Our time was 4 hours, 51 minutes, and 34 seconds. We crossed the finish holding hands and smiling! Erika was 18th of 83 women and she was 3rd in her age division. Scott was 50th of 166 men and he was 4th in his age division. Erika placed 67th and Scott 68th out of 249 total finishers. It was an awesome and painful experience all at the same time.

When we started the run it was overcast and foggy and then at the halfway mark it started to clear up and became a beautiful day.

This marathon was mostly on trails which was great. We didn't mind the climbing at all, the steep downhills were a problem. When we got to about mile 20 we hit the pavement. It was paved the rest of the way. The hardest part of the whole marathon was after we got to the last water station and the volunteers told us that there was only 3.3 miles left - all down hill. That last 3 miles of down hill was very painful on our knees.

Will we do another??? After a couple days we are still recovering. We would say it is quite possible, although we sure haven't signed up for anther yet.
