I don't know if I entirely understand the pathology....but they have these races where people come and ride for 24 hours, some in teams others somehow solo. Well, Scott and my brothers happen to be among those who participate in such..... :) here's from a race in Tucson that we drove out to join Kevin's team

The team "the ABD's" (they are mostly grad students - all but dissertation" get it? They did great and no injuries. A fun time (and a good night's sleep for me!) :)
I have a feeling there will be more of these to come....
